VISITING LECTURE FE UNJ & IBD UNIVERSITAS TEKNOLOGI MALAYSIA

In line with the vision of Jakarta State University (UNJ) to become a reputable university in the Asian region, the Faculty of Economics at Jakarta State University (FE UNJ) engages in various international-scale activities within the realm of Higher Education Tridharma. Commencing with collaborations, lecture exchanges, visits to foreign universities, research collaborations, community engagement initiatives between universities, and student exchanges, international-scale collaborations in the field of Higher Education Tridharma are routinely carried out. This endeavor is aligned with the Faculty’s efforts to achieve Key Performance Indicator (KPI) 8, which pertains to internationally accredited study programs.

Building upon previous fieldwork courses conducted by FE UNJ at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), on September 15, 2023, FE UNJ’s International Undergraduate Program (Accounting, Digital Business, and Management), Business Education Study Program, and Master of Management Study Program hosted a Visiting Lecture by Prof. Dr. Hesham Ali Metwally Ali El-enshasy, the Director of the Institute of Bioproduct Development (IBD) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The event took place at the RA Kartini Building within FE UNJ and featured a lecture delivered by Prof. Hesham to FE UNJ students. The program began with discussions between FE UNJ leaders and Prof. Hesham regarding potential collaboration activities for both institutions. Subsequently, Prof. Hesham delivered a lecture on the topic of “Business Development and Commercialization of Biotechnology-Based Products.” The event was attended by approximately 95 students from both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as academic leaders and faculty members from FE UNJ.

During his presentation, Prof. Hesham discussed the applications of biotechnology in various industries, including healthcare, agriculture, and medicine. He emphasized the management of biotech businesses, particularly in the healthcare sector, where the demand for insulin is high due to the prevalence of diabetes. Furthermore, Prof. Hesham addressed the captive market of beauty products, which are currently dominant in the industry.

Prof. Hesham explained the strategies and approaches for selling biotech products to companies and consumers, focusing on management aspects such as marketing and operations. He elaborated on marketing strategies, including online marketplace utilization, as well as supply chain management to support online sales.

The event, moderated by Adnan Kasofi, a lecturer at FE UNJ, received positive feedback from participants. This activity serves as a pathway for further international collaborations between FE UNJ and UTM. It is anticipated that this event has broadened the participants’ insights and opportunities related to the biotechnology industry and entrepreneurship, as presented by the speaker.
